Quilting Honor & Comfort for Our Wounded

Wounded Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and Airman want to know two things: How their buddy is doing and does the average American care about their contributions in keeping terrorism away from our shores. The answer to the first is given by the military. The answer to the second can only be given by the average American. And, one way you can do this, is to help make a Quilt of Valor (QOV). Our mission is to cover ALL wounded and injured service members from the War on Terror, whether physical or psychological wounds, with a wartime QOV. Over 4,000 of our men and women have died as a result of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The official number of wounded is over 61,000. (see www.qovf.org for more detailed information)

There are four ways to get involved in the QOV process and one of them doesn't even involve sewing!

1) Make a finished QOV quilt and bring it to your local QOV drop shop. QOV's should be a minimum size of 50" x 60" but no more than 72" x 96" and quilted, either by hand or machine. It should include a label (with the name of the piecer, the quilter and a line for the recipient's name) and a pillowcase. We can supply patterns for the quilts, pillowcases and labels if needed (wimer101@drtel.net). It is also nice to include a hand or typed message to the soldier. They really appreciate the thanks and encouragement. For more detailed info visit www.qovf.org.

2) Make a quilt top and include the backing, binding, and preferably the label (see above) and pillowcase. Don't worry about batting and quilting - we have longarmers who volunteer to do that part.

3) Machine or hand quilt a QOV top. Contact LaRae Wimer, 701-678-2293 or Beth Cole, 701-320-9107 if you are willing to volunteer.

4) Donate funds or supplies to the QOV non-profit foundation in your state to offset the costs of making and shipping the QOV's to military hospitals.

Join the thousands who have shown support and given tangible comfort to our physically, psychologically and spiritually wounded service members. Help make a Quilt of Valor. They DO make a difference in their lives!

The most frequent remark from a QOV recipient is: "We Didn't Know Anyone Cared."
